Dear colleagues,
On behalf of the local organization committee, I would like to cordially invite you to attend the 53rdAnnual Conference of the Particle Therapy Co-Operative Group (PTCOG 53). It will be held in Shanghai International Convention Center, Shanghai, China from June 8 to 14, 2014, and the host organizers are Shanghai Proton and Heavy Ion Center and Fudan University Shanghai Cancer Center (FUSCC).
FUSCC is an affiliated hospital to Fudan University. Shanghai Proton and Heavy Ion Center will be managed by FUSCC. FUSCC is the oldest cancer center in China, which was founded in 1931 and started with radium irradiation. In the main campus of FUSCC we provide comprehensive care for cancer patients, including surgery, photon irradiation, chemotherapy and Chinese traditional herb medicine. In the year of 2012 we treated 6,200 patients by irradiation.
As the usual, PTCOG 53 will start with the Educational Workshop from June 9 to June 11 and followed by the Scientific Meeting from June 12 to 14, 2014. The Educational Workshop will provide an overview of the physical and biological basics of particle therapy and clinical studies with the latest knowledge, new advances, innovations, and prospective developments. For the Scientific Meeting we have decided the topics of major interest: image guidance, treatment planning, moving targets, and evidence-based particle therapy. At the last day of PTCOG 53 we will have a site visit to Shanghai Proton and Heavy Ion Center, which locates in the suburban of Shanghai. Our particle therapy system is from Siemens, which can provide both proton and carbon ion. In addition there are linear accelerators for photon irradiation in Shanghai Proton and Heavy Ion Center.
We expect that a close to 1000 participants will attend it. PTCOG 53 will offer a platform for exchanging and sharing our experience, inspiriting multi-institution collaboration and promoting particle therapy. And also it will provide an opportunity for our society to strengthen our friendship and make new friends.
Shanghai is one of the biggest cities in the world with 22 millions of residents, and now is the centers of industry, economy and finance in China and in Asia as well. It integrates the east and the west. Along with the scientific program, we are providing exciting social programs to introduce you our beautiful and dynamic city.
